Good Oil AI — Terms and conditions

Product: app.goodoil.ai / goodoil.ai (The Good Oil / political intelligence tools)
Effective: 2026-09-20
Operator / agency: The Good Oil, New Zealand. Contact: cam@goodoil.news
Law: New Zealand (including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 where it applies). Not Delaware, California, or any other US state or foreign template.

1. Agreement

By accessing or using Good Oil AI (“the Service”), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms apply to use from New Zealand and anywhere else you reach the Service — the contract is still a New Zealand one.

2. What the Service is

Good Oil AI provides New Zealand political intelligence tools (including polls, Wires, MP/donor dossiers, research assistants, and related data views). It is research and analysis tooling, not legal, financial, campaign, or professional advice. Outputs may be incomplete or wrong — verify before you rely on them.

3. Accounts and membership doors

Access is tied to a Good Oil membership / session.

Access What it is Locked price / notes
Free Shop window / limited surface Not the full Insight desk
Basic (and similar non-Insight Ghost tiers) Membership without Insight entitlement No full desk
Insight Full intel desk on goodoil.ai NZD $25 / month
Good Oil VIP (Ghost on goodoil.news) Same entitlement as Insight Two doors, one entitlement
Professional Team / seat product Sales-led (list ~NZD $399/seat)
Enterprise Custom From ~NZD $25k/year — sales-led

Not a membership tier: the NZD $149 analyst deep-dive / dossier checkout is a one-off sub-product (VIP often −15%). It is not “Insight VIP priced at $149.”

Staff accounts may retain full access as determined by the operator.

4. Billing, cancellation, refunds

If you acquire the Service as a consumer in New Zealand, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 applies. Those guarantees cannot be contracted out of except as that Act allows. Nothing in these Terms limits a consumer right you cannot give up. Where you acquire the Service in trade (for example a firm buying Professional or Enterprise seats), guarantees under the Act may be excluded to the extent the Act permits.

Where the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply, refunds are otherwise discretionary and case-by-case.

5. Acceptable use

You must not: scrape or republish non-public data at scale; attempt to bypass paywalls or entitlements; upload malware; harass others; use the Service to break the law; reverse-engineer beyond what’s allowed for interoperability under NZ law; or misrepresent AI outputs as official government records.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms.

6. Content and intellectual property

Site branding, software, and curated datasets remain ours or our licensors’. Your prompts and notes remain yours; you grant us a licence to process them to run the Service. Public political data sources remain subject to their own licences.

7. Guarantees and service quality

We will take reasonable care to keep the Service available and useful. We do not promise uninterrupted access or error-free outputs.

For New Zealand consumers, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 continues to apply — including that services will be carried out with reasonable care and skill, and will be fit for the particular purpose you make known (where that Act applies). We do not use United States “as is / merchantability / fitness for a particular purpose” warranty language, and we do not disclaim CGA rights that cannot be excluded.

If you are not a consumer (or the Act has been lawfully excluded in trade), then except for rights that cannot be excluded, we give no extra warranty about the Service.

8. Liability

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that New Zealand law does not allow us to limit (including consumer guarantees that cannot be excluded).

Subject to that, and to the maximum extent permitted by New Zealand law, our aggregate liability arising from the Service is limited to the fees you paid us for the Service in the three months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or decisions made using the Service.

9. Privacy, cookies, and electronic messages

Personal information is handled under the Good Oil AI Privacy Policy at /privacy (Privacy Act 2020 / Information Privacy Principles). That policy also has the cookie notice (clear NZ-style notice — not an EU opt-in wall) and how we send email.

If we send commercial electronic messages (for example promotional membership mail), we will do so in line with the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007: identifiable New Zealand sender, consent where that Act requires it, and a working unsubscribe. One-off sign-in codes, receipts, and messages needed to run your account are not marketing. We do not run open, unauthenticated forms that send mail to third parties.

10. Changes

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be posted on /terms with an updated date. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance, except that we will not take away non-excludable Consumer Guarantees Act rights by a website update.

11. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the law of New Zealand. The courts of New Zealand have exclusive jurisdiction.

This is not a Delaware, California, or other United States state contract, and it is not subject to the courts of any US state or of the European Union as a default forum. Non-excludable New Zealand consumer rights still apply.
